The list is growing and growing. Yesterday, we told you that over 750,000 people had requested an invitation to buy the OnePlus 2. Just because your name is on the list doesn't mean that an invitation to buy the newly introduced handset is in your hands. Invites will at first go out to contest winners, stars from OnePlus' forums, and those who receive one from a OnePlus 2 owner. Any left over inventory will be sold through invitations sent out to those who registered for one.
After the first 72 hours from the phone's unveiling, OnePlus now has more than 1 million invitation requests. And why not? OnePlus calls its latest phone the 2016 flagship killer, and in case you haven't noticed, it's only 2015. With the 16GB model priced at $329 and the 64GB variant offered at $389, the OnePlus 2 is very competitively priced.
Last year, invitations were nearly impossible to come by when the OnePlus One launched. This year, OnePlus has promised up to 50 times more invitations will be available when the sequel launches on August 11th in the United States, Canada, India, European Union, and China.
The company will open up temporary pop-up stores today in nine locations: New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, New Delhi, Bangalore, and Jakarta. The first fifty people at each location will get a bag o' goodies, and OnePlus will be giving away OnePlus 2 handsets and invitations.
Last year, more than one million OnePlus One units were sold (the company expected to sell no more than 100,000 units). Even if all of those million plus reservations aren't eventually converted to sales, the OnePlus 2 is already well ahead of its predecessor at the same stage in their lives.
