Microsoft Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL could be unveiled October 19th along with the Surface Pro 4?
Have you been waiting and waiting and waiting for Microsoft to announce its next Lumia flagship phone? If so, circle Monday, October 19th on your calendar. A fresh rumor published on Sunday suggests that this will be the date when the Microsoft Lumia 940 and Microsoft Lumia 940 XL will be unveiled. The speculation is that this event will take place in New York.

Besides the two Lumia handsets, we could see Microsoft taking the wraps off of the Surface Pro 4, the sequel to its highly successful Surface Pro 3 tablet. Speaking of sequels, the Microsoft Band 2 wearable is also expected to be introduced.

Just a few days ago, we first passed along to you word that this event would take place in October. Now, we have a possible date and a possible change in the model number of the phones. We've heard various rumors about whether the two new Lumia handsets would be the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL or the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. This latest report suggests that it will be the former model numbers getting the nod.

The Microsoft Lumia 940 XL is expected to feature a 5.7-inch display with a 1440 x 2560 QHD resolution. The Snapdragon 810 SoC is under the hood, with an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 430 GPU. 3GB of RAM is inside, with 32GB of expandable storage. A 20MP PureView camera will be on the back with a 5MP front-facing camera handling selfies. An iris scanner is on board, along with a USB Type-C port, and a native pen.

The Microsoft Lumia 940 features specs that are close to being the same as those on the Lumia 940 XL, but with a smaller 5.2-inch screen, and the Snapdragon 808 SoC driving the device. The latter offers a hexa-core CPU and the Adreno 418 GPU.

Last month it was rumored that the Surface Pro 4 would be announced in October, powered by Intel's Skylake chips with Windows 10 pre-installed.
