Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 specs won't be released August 11th as rumored


Last week, we told you that Qualcomm would be releasing the technical specifications of the Snapdragon 820 chipset on August 11th. With all of the fear about overheating that has engulfed the Snapdragon 810, many smartphone manufacturers and users will be happy to move the conversation over to the next high-end Qualcomm SoC. Analyst Pan Jiutang has said that the chip will start shipping in December and will make its debut inside the Xiaomi Mi 5 next March.

If you were really looking forward to hearing about the Snapdragon 820 SoC on Tuesday, we have some bad news. The event taking place in Los Angeles on Tuesday is actually the SIGGRAPH 2015 conference that deals with computer graphics. Qualcomm is going to attend. Somehow, this got mixed up into meaning that the Snapdragon 820 would have its specs unveiled on Tuesday.

Those excited to see how the Snapdragon 820 benchmarks, might have seen a good example of what Qualcomm is bringing to the table. A mystery Samsung device was put through the AnTuTu benchmark test and scored an amazing 95,972. While there is no confirmation, this might have been the Samsung Galaxy S7 with the Snapdragon 820 inside. There has been talk that Samsung would be returning to Qualcomm for the Galaxy S7.

Reportedly, manufacturers like LG, HTC and Sony have already received samples of the Snapdragon 820. Besides Xiaomi, the three are considered to be among the smartphone makers who will be early to market with a Snapdragon 820 powered handset.
