Well it was nice while it lasted. Just one day after DxOMark said the Nexus 6P's camera was second only to the Galaxy S6 Edge, it has declared a new phone at the top. The title now goes to the Sony Xperia Z5.
The Xperia Z5 is set to hit the market soon with a 5.2 inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 chip, 3GB of RAM, and Android 5.1. But what is most relevant here is that 23MP camera on the back, which can capture 5520 by 4120 images. Sony is well known for its camera technology, and it looks like the Xperia Z5 doesn't disappoint.
The phone has achieved 88 out of 100 in the photo category and 86 for video, giving it an overall score of 87. This puts it above the Nexus 6P's total of 84. DxOMark says the phone excels with impressive auto focus in all conditions, calling this feature in particular the best it has tested in a phone to date. it also praises the white balance and color rendering, along with the detail preservation in both good and low light. The image stabilization is also apparently far ahead of the competition. You can check out the review to see the results yourself.
For the record, the camera was one of the features Sony boasted most about when unveiling the Xperia Z5.
That's not to say that everything is perfect. The reviewers found artifacts visible and some blue sky shots, and flash led to slight attenuation in the corners of images. The site also asserts that autofocus is a little slow in low light. Overall, these are not surprising weaknesses in a smartphone camera.
DxOMark's recommendations for Android users looking for the best smartphone cameras are currently the Xperia Z5, Galaxy S6 Edge, and the Nexus 6P. Though competition from the LG G4 andMoto X Style is still pretty commendable. Hopefully you have big hands though, or a really stable selfie stick. Actually, no. No one should own a selfie stick.
