Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 sets new record with over 1.5 million sales

Xiaomi is making headlines yet again thanks to its seamlessly endless winning streak. With its aggressive pricing strategy and diversified portfolio the Chinese OEM has made a habit of shattering sales records (like with the Redmi 2 and 2A, which already have more than 13 million units sold) and shining bright on both domestic and international markets.
The latest such achievement comes courtesy of the Redmi Note 2. It was announced just over a month ago and managed to sell a whopping 800,000 units in just 12 hours during its first flash sale on the domestic market. That was definitely a record right there, but it turns out that interest has only been growing since and industry sources now claim that the handset has exceeded 1.5 million sales as of September 5.

That is undoubtedly an all-time best for Xiaomi and it is hard to believe that the company is managing to keep up with such a demand. At this rate, the Redmi Note 2 could easily cross the 10 million mark by the end of 2015, which definitively proves that the phone is a remarkably good deal. Actually, a price tag of just $125 for the 16GB and $156 for the 32GB model is still baffling, considering the rest of the specs sheet.
We are talking about a handset that features a MediaTek Helio X10 SoC with eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores, and a 5.5-inch 1080p display. It comes with 2GB RAM and packs in a 3,060mAh battery.
The Redmi Note 2 also features a 13MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter. There is also dual SIM support, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and IR blaster, and the device runs the new MIUI 7 out of the box. It also has a slick and clean exterior with nice and vibrant color choices such as Cyan, Yellow and Pink, alongside the traditional Black and White.

Bear in mind that like many other Xiaomi products, availability for the Redmi Note 2 is still limited to the local market (although it is listen on OppoMart for a few extra bucks), which means that the impressive results are achieved in one market alone. Naturally, there is huge potential for even greater sales on international markets, but that would require a great deal of work, a major manufacturing expansion and would inevitable ramp up the price. Still, Xiaomi'sHugo Barra has hinted that entering the US market in on the cards, albeit not in the next year or so and the company is already expanding quite efficiently into the vast Indian market.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 image is revealed, along with its box and pricing!

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 image is revealed, along with its box and pricing
An image of the unannounced Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has been leaked by Chinese tipster @KJuma. In addition to a picture of the phone, today's leak also includes a photograph of the box that the handset will come in. The latest word is that the device will be offered for sale at the equivalent of $177 USD, although a previous leak showed the phone priced at the equivalent of $128 USD. The Redmi Note 2 has already been certified in China by TENAA and there will be two versions of the handset. One will be equipped with the Snapdragon 615 SoC, while the other will feature the MediaTek MT6795 chipset.

The rest of the specs include a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 resolution screen. 2GB of RAM is on board along with 16GB of non-expandable storage. The rear-facing camera on back is 13MP with a 5MP snapper in front ready to shoot selfies and handle video chats. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 measures 8.05mm thin and weighs 159 grams. A 3100mAh cell keeps the lights on, and Android 5.0.2 is pre-installed.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is expected to be unveiled on August 13th, the same date that Xiaomi's MIUI 7 UI will supposedly be revealed. That is also the date of Samsung's Unpacked event in New York City, during which the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be made official. If you're into smartphones, August 13th is certainly a date that you should circle on the calendar.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 may be outed alongside MIUI 7 on August 13

Xiaomi is set to take the wraps off the next iteration of its mobile operating system based on Android on August 13. But at that event we apparently might see a new smartphone being announced alongside MIUI 7.
New rumors are popping up in China saying that the long-awaited Redmi Note 2 will finally become official on that occasion. Furthermore, a leading Chinese online retailer has mentioned August 16 as the possible date on which pre-orders for the new handset are due to start.
And finally, we have the image above. This is purported to be an internal screengrab from Xiaomi's online store, showing the price of the 32GB version of the upcoming Redmi Note 2 as CNY 799. That's about $128 or €117 at the current exchange rates.
But there's surely going to be an even cheaper model with 16GB of storage. And speculation has it that this will be offered for just CNY 699 ($112, €103). That price point would make it a tough competitor for Meizu's recently unveiled m2 note.
As for specs, past mumblings spoke about the Redmi Note 2 sporting a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP selfie cam, 2GB of RAM, and a 3,020 mAh battery. It could be powered by MediaTek's MT6795 SoC with a 2 GHz octa-core CPU.
